Description/Brief Summary: Dr. Helmstetter places the responsibility of relying upon yourself to pay attention to what you say to you, on YOU. His research has provided wisdom and understanding when it comes to helping the common man, “to manage and properly use” the voice within in each of our heads.
Published in 1982, WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU TALK TO YOURSELF, helps you to optimize your outlook, focus your plans, keep you on top, in touch, and going for it! By adopting the simple techniques of Self-Talk, the reader comes to understand ‘key powerful phrases’.
I have been privileged to attend a number of Dr. Helmstetter’s live presentations. His patience and humor make his delivery of this topic a joy to behold. His Lifetime Library of Positive Self-talk CD’s/MP3’s are the most complete and effective way to change what you say when you talk to yourself, which is the key to the programming your brain receives and can mold your emotions and attitudes.
Sample: “The more we have learned about Self-Talk, the more way we have found to use it – ways that make it easier to practice and learn and make it more lasting and effective at the same time. No idea, no matter how good, will work if it doesn’t get used. When I studied the field of self-help and examined the many concepts available, I found some self-help concepts that made a lot of sense and could have worked, but they were too difficult to put into practice. … I recognized the incredible capacity of the subconscious mind. … Technology combined solid self-programming principles with a tool that any one could use, and would work as well as or better than any of the other techniques I had found. …It proved to be directly and naturally compatible with the way the brain worked!”
Utilizing the tools of Self-talk as, Dr. Helmstetter wrote about in his book, and I in this WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU TALK TO YOURSELF Book Review, seemed like a “big deal” to start – at first. There are many things you could tell yourself about why it will not work and that it is really not for you. However, I found that I needed to re-read this book. I wanted to understand more about how my self-conscious state could allow me to feel peace while I was working towards goals, new goals that I had little success with.
Then, I found I really needed more! I purchased the Self-Talk CD’s and listened to them each morning. I found that the practice of talking to myself would allow me to reach my goals and dreams. Practice and then practice again. I found joy in each accomplishment, not only within the program of reading and listening, but also practicing, at least once a day, something new that I had learned.
What To Say When You Talk To YourSelf, has given me the ability to say to myself each day… ‘I choose my thoughts. No thought at any time can dwell in my mind without my permission. I have talents, skills and abilities, and I am discovering new ones each day! I take time to listen and to communicate. I will master patience and understanding, as they are worth working on and I do! I focus my attention on the things I can control. I know that what I believe about myself is what I will become. That is why I believe, and say the BEST about myself!’
